An Expert Review of Skoda Rapid

0

Skoda has been striving to make its mark felt in the luxury car segment. Nearly five years ago, the Czech manufacturer introduced the diesel version of Skoda Rapid in the Indian markets with much ado. It is the best-selling Skoda car in India though it is still not a bestseller in its segment. The same car has been given a major facelift in a bid to increase the sales figures. But, will this new avatar perform as per the anticipation? It is yet to be seen. Here is an expert Rapid Skoda review for you:

The Looks:

If looks are to be believed, this version of Rapid is surely trying to turn the heads with an improved design. It looks closer to the new Octavia and Superb. In fact, it resembles its siblings with a new sleek and sharp face. There is a new headlamp cluster having a multi-reflector unit for the main beam and projectors for a low beam. The front bumper has a honeycomb effect due to a larger air dam. The side profile is also sharper than before while rear bumper has retained its old style. The only difference is the boot lip spoiler and a smoked outline of the tail lamp assembly.

The Interiors:

The interiors are pretty much unchanged. The dashboard layout is same but there is a new ebony-sand dual combo on the dash. The most amazing addition is a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system. Along with an advanced MirrorLink connectivity, it offers AUX, Bluetooth, and USB capabilities. Also, there are rain sensing wipers and adjustable steering wheel. The list of features in the interiors of Rapid includes a climate-control system, cooled glovebox, cruise control, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The interiors are spacious and elegant. It has an ample legroom and boot space for a comfortable ride.

Engine and Performance:

The Rapid Skoda review isn’t complete without talking about its engine and gearbox. This luxury sedan has an improved version of the engine owned by its predecessor. It comes fitted with 1.5 litre TDI engine with a large turbo to emanate 110 BHP power. The torque is same at 250 Nm. It is linked to the 5-speed manual transmission or you can opt for a 7-speed DSG box. There is a nifty indicator for gear position on the instrument panel and efficiency of the motor is pretty impressive. The clutch is on a heavier side but drivability of this car is excellent. So, it is not really a deal breaker. The suspension setup is unchanged.

The Verdict:

This is a punchy vehicle with sharp looks. With updates, it looks more competitive. The most highlighting feature is the standard 4-year warranty along with Skoda roadside assistance. The comfortable interiors, ample spaces, and improved performance make it a value-to-money car in this segment.
