Honda Cars India has made headlines by slashing the price of the City e:HEV hybrid sedan to Rs. 19.89 lakhs, down from its previous price of Rs. 20.85 lakhs—a substantial reduction of nearly Rs. 1 lakh. This strong-hybrid offering is still available exclusively in the top-tier ZX trim.
Launched in 2022, the City e:HEV signified Honda’s return to the hybrid passenger car market in India after previously offering the Civic and Accord hybrids. In 2023, it received a facelift alongside the standard City petrol variant, enhancing its appeal in the competitive premium sedan segment.
As the only mass-market strong-hybrid sedan available in India, the City e:HEV is positioned competitively against its nearest rival, the Toyota Camry, which comes with a significantly higher price.
Powering the City Hyrid is a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a battery pack located under the boot floor. Combined, they generate 125 BHP, with power routed to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox.
The feature set is impressive, boasting modern amenities like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), six airbags, LED headlights, Honda’s LaneWatch camera, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities.
In terms of competition, the Honda City e:HEV goes head-to-head with the higher-spec petrol variants of the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia. However, none of these competitors offer a similar strong-hybrid powertrain, giving the City e:HEV a distinctive edge for buyers prioritizing fuel efficiency and cutting-edge technology.
