Range Rover announces the launch of the 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography in India, reinforcing its position as the world’s most dynamic and performance-focusedluxury SUV. Designed for clients who demand sporting capability without compromising refinement, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography blends powerful design, cutting-edge technologies and peerless comfort.

The Range Rover Sport has become a landmark in India’s luxury performance SUV market since Jaguar Land Rover made its debut in 2009. The initial generation (L320) came in a refreshed version that provided Indian customers with a sportier option compared to the full-sized Range Rover, featuring a range of engines including a 3.0L V6 diesel and a powerful 5.0L V8 petrol. This first iteration set the standard for the brand, successfully blending off-road capability with impressive highway performance.

In October 2013, the second generation (L494) debuted, offering a significant upgrade for the model. With its all-aluminum monocoque chassis, this SUV lost about 400kg, leading to enhanced handling and better fuel efficiency—key considerations for discerning Indian buyers. This generation introduced several changes, including a major redesign in 2018 that featured the cutting-edge dual-screen Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. To attract a wider audience, Land Rover rolled out a 2.0L Ingenium petrol variant in 2019, making the entry point more accessible. This was complemented by the launch of the exhilarating 575hp SVR variant in 2021, catering to performance enthusiasts.

The latest iteration, the third generation (L461), was launched in May 2022. Built on the advanced MLA-Flex platform, it showcases a sleek minimalist design and cutting-edge technology like the Pivi Pro interface. A landmark development took place in May 2024 when JLR revealed that the Range Rover Sport would be locally assembled at its Pune plant for the first time. This transition from a Completely Built Unit (CBU) to local assembly allowed for more competitive pricing. As of April 2026, the range continues to evolve, focusing on six-cylinder mild-hybrid engines and the luxurious Autobiography trims, ensuring that it remains a premier choice in India’s automotive market.
