Harley-Davidson is reportedly developing an exciting new 350cc motorcycle, which could represent a game-changing move for the brand. With India’s GST structure heavily favoring motorcycles under 350cc, insiders have indicated that Harley recognizes the need for a model that aligns with this tax framework to improve its performance in the coming year. It only makes sense for the company to create a smaller engine that occupies this lower tax bracket. Given Harley’s reputation for powerful cruisers, a long-stroke, air-cooled 350cc single-cylinder engine would be a fitting evolution.
One straightforward approach could be to adapt the existing 440cc engine from the Harley-Davidson X440, shrinking and tuning it to conform to the 350cc limits. You can expect a powerful yet relaxed engine paired with roadster-like ergonomics — perfect for daily riding while still keeping that unmistakable Harley feel. This new model is likely to debut sometime next year and aims to be the most affordable option from Harley-Davidson in India.
This new 350cc offering will position itself against the Royal Enfield Classic 350, the current leader in this segment. To compete effectively, it will need to be priced strategically, probably in the same range as the Classic 350, which starts from Rs 1,81,118 to Rs 2,15,750 (ex-showroom, Chennai). If Harley gets this pricing right, it stands to tap into a significant sales volume currently dominated by Royal Enfield bikes.
Meanwhile, Triumph (in partnership with Bajaj) is also gearing up to launch its own 350cc model, the Bonneville 350, suggesting that competition in this segment is about to intensify. By releasing a tax-friendly, small-capacity Harley, the brand can appeal to a much broader audience than ever before and enhance its competitive stance against both Royal Enfield and Triumph.
If the launch proceeds as planned next year, this new 350cc Harley could be a pivotal moment for the brand in India. With an appealing price point, authentic Harley essence, and the advantage of lower taxes, this motorcycle could finally deliver the sales momentum Harley-Davidson has been seeking in the Indian market. However, to capitalize on this opportunity, the brand will need to significantly expand its sales and service network, potentially leveraging Hero’s Premia dealerships to reach tier 2 and tier 3 cities effectively.
