Toyota seems to be developing a larger version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, reportedly designed to accommodate seven passengers.
Recent sightings of a test vehicle at high altitude indicate a longer body compared to the current Hyryder available in India. The elongated rear and larger overall proportions suggest a well-structured third row, hinting at a renewed partnership between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki on their three-row midsize SUV projects after a brief pause.
A noteworthy observation includes the visible rear axle shafts on the test vehicle, suggesting that an all-wheel-drive setup is being tested. Currently, AWD is exclusively available with the 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine and a manual transmission in the five-seater Hyryder and Grand Vitara. If this setup continues in the seven-seater, it could attract buyers interested in both additional seating and touring capabilities.
### What to Expect from the Seven-Seater Hyryder
– The front design is likely to remain unchanged, while the rear will be modified to include the added row.
– An extended wheelbase and rear overhang will free up cabin space.
– New connected LED tail lamps and redesigned bumpers will enhance its premium appearance.
– Larger alloy wheels will complement the expanded body.
Inside, the cabin is anticipated to be redesigned to comfortably accommodate three rows without feeling cramped, with opportunities for feature upgrades.
### Anticipated Features Include:
– Panoramic sunroof
– Ventilated front seats
– Larger touchscreen with updated software
– Digital driver display
– Level 2 ADAS
– Connected car technology
Engine options are expected to remain similar, likely including the 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol, the 1.5-litre strong hybrid with e-CVT, and possibly a CNG variant. AWD will probably continue to be reserved for the mild hybrid manual version.
With testing now underway, a launch later this year seems feasible. Once introduced, the seven-seater Hyryder will compete with models such as the Alcazar, Safari, and Hector Plus, all while offering improved fuel efficiency thanks to hybrid technology.
For anyone in search of a spacious, efficient, and feature-rich family SUV, this new Toyota model may be well worth the wait along with a Maruti option could rule the market and take down the Hyundai Alcazar which isn’t doing well.
