Scandanavian motorcycle brand Husqvarna may be a niche name in India but the brand is fairly popular in Europe. Its models share underpinnings with the KTM range, being part of the Pierer Group, and also benefit from the India connection with Bajaj Auto. With the KTM 390 Duke already updated globally, Husqvarna is now gearing up to introduce the next-generation Svartpilent 401. The model has proven to be quite popular globally, and the 2022 edition will arrive with a number of upgrades. The latest spy shots showcase the 2022 Husqvarna Svartpilent 401 test mule for the first time.
The test mule reveals the new steel trellis frame underneath the revised bodywork on the updated motorcycle. The body panels appear all new and the design has seen a comprehensive upgrade. This includes a revised fuel tank and headlamp, but its the tail section that gets most changes with an exposed frame. The model looks sportier and more rugged than before, while the test mule also sports a new alloy lattice swingarm from the KTM range that’s likely to be lighter than the one on the existing motorcycle. The trellis frame also gets a white finish that is unlikely to make it to production, given Husqvarna’s dedicated design and colour scheme, which are also its key selling points.
Furthermore, there’s a new conventional tail section on the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. The current model nearly misses this panel completely with the number plate mounted on the rear tyre hugger. There’s also a new radial front brake caliper for improved braking performance. The bike is also likely to get a TFT screen as standard when the production version arrives.
Power on the 2022 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is likely to come from the 373 cc motor. The liquid-cooled engine could get similar upgrades as the KTM range. In its current avatar, the engine develops about 44PS at 9000RPM and more torque at 37Nm at 7000RPM. The company will work towards refining the engine further along with overall performance. The 6-speed gearbox will be carried over.
There’s no word on the launch just yet but we expect Husqvarna to introduce the model sometime next year itself. The 2022 Svartpilen 401 will get a price hike when it goes on sale internationally. The model will continue to be made in India and exported overseas, like the current motorcycle. It is possible that Husqvarna India could directly introduce the 401 in an all-new avatar in the country. At present, Husqvarna sells the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilent 250 in India,
