Ahead of its official launch on March 31, we’re getting a sneak peek at the new Chery-JLR Freelander SUV thanks to recent crash test images. Bringing back a nameplate that hasn’t been seen since 2015, this model emerges from a partnership between China’s Chery group and Jaguar Land Rover. It’s set to take the place of the locally produced Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque in the Chinese market.
Built on Chery’s T1X platform, the Freelander will debut as a plug-in hybrid with a bold, boxy design. It features unique headlights, a clamshell hood, noticeable “Freelander” branding, and a roof-mounted contour likely accommodating a LiDAR sensor. Inside, expect a sleek and minimalist cabin that includes a two-tier dashboard, a digital display for the driver, a large floating touchscreen, and a center console complete with dual wireless charging pads.
Initially aimed at the Chinese market through a dedicated dealer network operated by Chery, the new Freelander also has the potential for future global reach.
