Mercedes-Benz has introduced the VLE, the first model built on its new modular Van Architecture. The vehicle is designed to combine the driving characteristics of a limousine with the interior space of an MPV. It features an aerodynamic body with a drag coefficient of 0.25 and a silhouette characterized by a low roofline. Exterior design elements include a brand-specific grille, power domes on the bonnet, and an arc-design light strip at the rear that integrates all lighting functions.

The initial lineup consists of the VLE 300 electric and the VLE 400 4MATIC electric. Both models utilize a new NMC battery with 115 kWh of usable energy.VLE 300: Offers 203 kW of power and a WLTP range exceeding 700 kilometers. Provides over 300 kW and all-wheel drive, reaching 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.Charging: Using 800-volt technology, the vehicle can add up to 355 kilometers of range in 15 minutes at a 300 kW DC fast-charging station. Models featuring 80 kWh LFP batteries are scheduled for release next year.

The VLE supports configurations for five to eight passengers across three rows. Entrance is provided via electric sliding doors on both sides.Seating Systems: The “Roll & Go” system uses manually operated seats on wheels that can be moved along tracks or removed entirely. Alternatively, the “Remote Variable Rear Space” feature allows users to adjust electric seats via an app or the infotainment system.Seat Types: Options include a manual Comfort Seat, an electric Premium Comfort Seat, and a Grand Comfort Seat featuring massage functions and calf support.

Cargo capacity ranges from 795 liters with three rows in place to 4,078 liters with all rear seats removed. The vehicle has a maximum towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.Digital Technology and Driving Aids The VLE runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which integrates infotainment, driving performance, and assistance systems.

The optional MBUX Superscreen consists of a 10.25-inch driver display and two 14-inch screens for the center and front passenger. A head-up display with augmented navigation is also available.An optional 31.3-inch, 8K panoramic screen retracts from the headliner. This system includes an eight-megapixel camera for video conferencing and supports various streaming and gaming applications. Navigation is powered by Google Maps and includes Electric Intelligence for route planning.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant utilizes generative AI, including agents like Google Gemini and ChatGPT, to facilitate natural language interaction. Standard equipment includes Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Lane Change Assist. The vehicle utilizes a sensor suite of 10 cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

The vehicle is equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension, which provides 40 mm of level control to adjust ground clearance. To improve maneuverability in confined spaces, the VLE features seven-degree rear-axle steering, resulting in a 10.9-meter turning circle. Acoustic comfort is managed through an exceptionally stiff bodyshell, extensive sound insulation, and decoupled drivetrain mounts.
