Audi India has delisted the A8 L and RS 5 Sportback from its official website, which indicates that the models may have been discontinued. Audi had introduced the updated fourth-generation A8 L in India just 2.5 years ago. The sedan was priced at Rs 1.63 crore (ex-showroom) and as always competed with the global leader such as the BMW 7 Series and the popular Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
A 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system was offered as the only option. The car was equipped with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension and made around 300 horsepower and torque.
2021 Audi RS 5 Sportback was priced at Rs 1.13 crore (ex-showroom) in India. Early 2025 it has seen its way out. Once a fantastic product from Audi, has been discontinued due to lack RS performance variants higher and lower in the portfolio and various other reasons. It had a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet, producing 444 BHP and 600 Nm replacing the iconic V8. Dual clutch was replaced with 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system Quattro system was retained.

Audi is also returning to its original naming strategy for future models. The letter ‘A’ will signify cars, while ‘Q’ will represent SUVs. Electric vehicles (EVs) will continue to carry names similar to their combustion engine counterparts, but will adopt the ‘e-tron’ suffix as usual. For combustion models, expect to see the TFSI (petrol), TDI (diesel), and TFSI e (hybrid) designations. Additionally, the company will specify body styles with the tags Avant, Sedan, or Sportback. This was changed earlier to make odd numbers defy ICe cars and even number to defy EV cars. Audi globally and in India is under pressure to increase sales as EV is shunted out globally and in India, EV sales continue to rise, but without Audi participating much in it. VW group on the other hand continues to grow its EV plans with other brands which is awaited move since quite some time in the Indian market with much fanfare.
