AXOR, the premium helmet brand from Vega Auto, today unveiled the AXOR MX Carbon, introducing what the company claims is the World’s lightest triple-certified off-road helmet.

Weighing approximately 1,050 grams in a large shell (±50 grams), with smaller shell sizes expected to be 50 grams lesser. The helmet features a predominantly carbon-fibre shell and meets ECE 22.06, DOT and ISI certification requirements.

The MX Carbon is engineered around a fundamental challenge in off-road helmet design: reducing weight without compromising the certification requirements expected of a performance-oriented helmet. By optimising the use of carbon fibre across the shell, along with its construction and manufacturing processes, AXOR has developed a helmet that is significantly lighter while retaining the certifications required across multiple standards. For riders, the reduced weight is designed to minimise the burden of a helmet during extended and demanding off-road riding, supporting greater comfort through long rides and technical terrain.

The achievement is backed by Vega Auto’s nearly three-decade journey in carbon fibre and composite engineering, rather than being a standalone product development. Vega Auto began its carbon fibre journey in 1998, building capabilities in carbon fibre development, composite manufacturing and helmet engineering over the years. The MX Carbon represents the culmination of this expertise, bringing Vega Auto’s experience in advanced materials and manufacturing into a purpose-engineered off-road helmet.

This capability has also been strengthened through continued investment in composite manufacturing. Vega Auto has recently invested approximately ₹2 crore in its composite manufacturing capabilities, while scaling its composite division to three times its 2020 capacity. These investments have enabled the company to build greater in-house expertise and manufacturing capability in advanced composite materials, creating the foundation for the development of lightweight, high-performance helmet platforms.

“We started our carbon fibre journey in 1998 with a long-term belief in the material and its potential to transform helmet engineering. The MX Carbon brings that journey together in a product that demonstrates what can be achieved when material expertise, manufacturing capability and helmet engineering come together. More importantly, it is a product designed and manufactured in India for riders who demand a high level of performance from their equipment. We believe this is an important step in showcasing the capabilities we have built in India over nearly three decades.” says Mr. Dilip Chandak, Chairman, Vega Auto

Designed and manufactured at Vega Auto’s facilities in Belgaum, Karnataka, the MX Carbon also represents the growing capabilities of India’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem. From carbon fibre development to composite manufacturing and final helmet engineering, the product brings together multiple stages of specialised expertise within India. The result is a globally benchmarked, lightweight off-road helmet developed and manufactured in the country.

“The engineering challenge with the MX Carbon was not simply to make a lighter helmet. It was to optimise the material, construction and manufacturing process to achieve a significantly reduced weight while meeting the required certification standards. At approximately 1,040 grams, the result reflects years of learning in carbon fibre and composite manufacturing. We see this as an important step towards bringing lightweight engineering into a wider range of helmet applications.” says Mr. Girdhari Chandak, Managing Director, Vega Auto

The MX Carbon also marks the beginning of a broader lightweight engineering roadmap for Vega Auto. The company plans to build on its carbon fibre and composite capabilities to develop future helmet platforms and progressively introduce learnings from lightweight engineering across its existing portfolio in the year ahead.

With the MX Carbon, AXOR brings together lightweight performance, triple certification, advanced carbon fibre engineering and Indian manufacturing capability in a single off-road helmet- extending Vega Auto’s nearly three-decade carbon fibre journey into a new generation of riding equipment.
