The BMW X5 has received a new base variant in the diesel range with the xDrive30d SportX that gets competitive new pricing. The BMW X5 SportX variant replaces the Sport variant as the new entry-level trim in the line-up and is priced at Rs. 74.90 lakh. The new entry-level version is about Rs. 8 lakh cheaper than the X5 diesel xLine version and misses out on a few bells and whistles over the range-topping variants of the SUV. The new X5 SportX takes on the Mercedes-Benz GLE 300d that is priced at Rs. 73.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India) in the segment.

The new BMW X5 SportX xDrive30d misses out on the fancier features including the BMW Laserlights, chrome accents on the front and rear bumpers, as well as the air dams. The SUV also misses out on side skirts, while the alloys have been downsized to 19-inch wheels in place of the 20-inch ones seen on the xLine and M Sport variants. The cabin has also seen some of the features being trimmed including the 360-degree camera, wireless charging, Harman-Kardon audio system, and the BMW Display key.

The seats are upholstered in SensaTec leather upholstery instead of the Vernasca leather. Lastly, the interior misses out on the open-pore wood trim around the dashboard, door pads and other surfaces. Under the hood, the BMW X5 continues to draw power from the 3.0-litre straight-six twin-turbo diesel engine that develops 265PS at 4000RPM and 620Nm of peak torque at 1500-2500RPM. The motor is paired with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the xDrive All-Wheel-Drive system. The BMW X5 SportX SUV continues to feature ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, LED lighting, Park Assist, panoramic sunroof, gesture control and more.

The two-axle suspension has also been retained on the base variant. The BMW X5 SportX can be purchased via the company’s Contactless Program online and also competes with the Audi Q7, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC90 and the Jaguar F-Pace. The Audi and Land Rover models though come with only a petrol engine option for now in the country.
