Call it fame hunger, narcissistic mentality, brain fogged behavior and following the herd mentality trending on the internet. A Youtuber owner of Hycross Hybrid created a ruckus on the internet despite being self proclaimed journalist and jumped to conclusions that Ethanol ruined his car. Contaminated fuel ruins even the most reliable cars in the world. Without waiting for a proper conclusion or doing any analysis the Hycross owner video went viral for obvious reasons. As a cross country driver/rider that most motorist are in India, we all know contaminated fuel in smaller cities and villages often ruin journeys.

This turned out to be the same. Now Toyota has repaired his car and given the Youtuber back while stating the statement below. Our team at ThrustZone is also running pre BS6 vehicles along with BS6 NON e20 compliant vehicles along with E20 vehicles and only thing we have noticed is lower fuel economy by a substantial margin. The ethanol roll out has not be in a uniform manner but that does not mean a technological heavy sector like automotive industry can be taken lightly and just bashed just like a topic like, inflation, taxes or security.

Toyota Statement

“We have noted a customer video currently circulating on social media wherein it is claimed that he experienced issues with his Toyota Hycross vehicle due to the use of ethanol-blended (E20) fuel. We would like to emphasize that the Toyota Hycross in question is E20-compatible vehicle that is designed, tested and certified for the use of E20 fuel. Further, based on our detailed technical assessment of the vehicle, the issue was due to fuel contamination. Our inspection confirmed that there was no damage to any vehicle component or its fuel system. As per our service protocol, the fuel tank and fuel lines were drained, thoroughly cleaned and the vehicle was refilled with Standard E20 fuel. The vehicle was inspected and found normal, then it was delivered to the customer. Therefore, it is clearly apparent that this incident is not related to E20 fuel usage and was solely caused by non-standard and contaminated fuel. We continue to advise our customers to always refuel at authorised and reputed fuel stations to minimise the risk of fuel contamination or adulteration, which can adversely affect vehicle performance. We also encourage customers to rely on credible, science-based information from official sources and to contact their nearest Toyota authorised dealership or the Toyota customer care team for any questions or concerns. We remain committed to delivering a safe, reliable and seamless ownership experience for all our customers.”
