Pune-based automaker Force Motors revealed the BS6 compliant Force Gurkha off-roader at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV received comprehensive changes with its new and cleaner engine, and it now seems the SUV is ready to hit the market. The 2020 Force Gurkha was recently spotted in the production-ready version and reports suggest that the model is heading to showrooms hinting at a launch very soon. The image has been shared by a dealer from Andhra Pradesh and showcases the bright orange paint scheme on the new Gurkha, same as the one showcased at the expo.
There are plenty of changes on the 2020 Force Gurkha while retaining the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen inspired design language. The three-door offering continues to get round headlamps but they now come with circular LED daytime running lights. The old chrome grille is replaced by the smarter-looking single-slat grille, along with fender-mounted turn indicators, fog lights integrated with the bumper, and a snorkel. The image also reveals new five-spoke alloy wheels, roof-mounted luggage carrier, side-steps for the doors. The model showcased at the expo also had new taillights, and a ladder mounted on the tailgate to access the roof.
The cabin will also receive major upgrades going by the model shown at the expo this year. Expect a lot of that to make it to the production model including a dual-tone dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system, power windows, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, dual front airbags and ABS.
The new Force Gurkha will continue to be based on a body-on-frame chassis but it has been updated to meet the new crash test norms. Power will come from the updated 2.6-litre diesel engine that’s part of the Mercedes-Benz OM616 family and develops 90PS and 260Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and comes with a manual 4×4 system.
The 2020 Force Gurkha BS6 is expected to go on sale around Diwali this year and bookings for the SUV is likely to begin soon. The model was always a capable off-roader and manages to differentiate itself thanks to its full metal and closed body. However, it’s not going to be easy with the new-generation Mahindra Thar looking extremely promising. Prices for the Gurkha BS6 will be announced closer to launch.
