JSW Motors Limited, the passenger mobility division of the JSW Group, is gearing up to introduce its inaugural car in India ahead of Diwali 2026, with plans for a second model to follow in 2027, as per insights from managing director Parth Jindal during a chat with CNBC-TV18 India at Davos summit.
The T2 showcases a familiar upright, boxy SUV silhouette, reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender. Yet, rather than a traditional ladder-frame chassis, it utilizes a modern monocoque platform. The international version boasts short overhangs, a tall stance, and well-defined proportions designed to create a commanding presence on the road. Globally, the Jetour T2 is available in both a 5-seater and a more spacious 7-seater variant. The 5-seater measures approximately 4.7 meters in length and 2 meters in width, positioning it larger than many midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, and even surpassing the Tata Safari.
While pure internal combustion engine models of the T2 are offered abroad, JSW’s strategy for India will focus on the T2 i-DM plug-in hybrid. This system integrates a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with electric motors, and the T2 i-DM can be found globally in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, although details about which version will be launched in India remain unconfirmed.
Inside, the global-spec Jetour T2 features a dual-screen setup, including a large central touchscreen and an innovative digital driver’s display. Modern conveniences such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control enhance comfort.
Notable features across higher trims include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-color ambient lighting, and a premium sound system. Additionally, the T2 incorporates a rotary drive mode selector with settings geared towards off-road capabilities, aligning with its rugged character.
Jindal has stated that the initial model will be priced in the Rs 15 lakh-30 lakh range, positioning it above the midsize SUV segment. For context, the front-wheel drive 5-seat T2 i-DM is priced around Rs 35 lakh in the UAE. The final pricing in India will depend on the degree of localization achieved and the specifications JSW opts to provide. A second model is on the horizon for 2027, which JSW anticipates will significantly contribute to sales.
Jetour, launched by Chery in 2018, centers around SUVs and has a presence in China and various global markets, including the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. For JSW, launching the T2 marks the beginning of its journey toward establishing a comprehensive JSW-branded passenger vehicle lineup in India.
