Kia Syros EV has made its first appearance on Indian roads during testing, spotted at a charging station in Kochi. The test vehicle was well-camouflaged to hide its design features, but some details managed to peek through, like the window lines, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-coloured ORVMs, all mirroring its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. Notably, the front and rear lighting elements also seem nearly identical.

We can expect only a few design tweaks specific to the electric version, such as a closed-off grille and a front charging port. There’s also a chance it will sport EV badging externally and green brake calipers, as seen in previous test models. The overall dimensions of this compact electric SUV are likely to remain consistent with the ICE version.

Inside the cabin, subtle changes tailored for EVs are anticipated. The Kia Syros EV may introduce new trims and upholstery alongside an upgraded instrument cluster designed for electric functionality. The feature set is expected to match that of its petrol equivalent, aiming to be the most well-equipped, spacious, and comfortable vehicle in its segment.

While official specifications haven’t been disclosed yet, rumors indicate that this electric compact SUV could share its powertrain with the upcoming Hyundai Inster EV, expected to debut in India in 2026. The Inster EV is offered globally with two battery options: 42kWh and 49kWh, promising ranges of 300km and 355km.

Upon its launch, the Kia Syros EV will compete with established players like the MG Windsor EV and Tata Punch EV. It’s set to be the most affordable electric offering from Kia in India, with base prices starting around Rs 14 lakh, rising to nearly Rs 20 lakh for the top-tier variant. At the moment, the Carens Clavis EV holds the title of Kia’s most budget-friendly electric SUV in India, with prices ranging from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.49 lakh (all ex-showroom).
