Mercedes-Benz today accomplished the much coveted ‘GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for greatest temperature change achieved by an electric production car, with its state-of-art, ‘Made in India’ EQS 450 4MATIC SUV. The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV underwent extreme temperature variations of 51.2 degrees Celsius travelling from Jaisalmer to Khardungla Pass, for a span of 9 days covering 2300+ kms.

The record setting cross-country drive under challenging real-life driving conditions underlines the efficiency, long range and practicality of the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV, which is Mercedes-Benz’s second locally assembled luxury BEV in India.The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title drive extended from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to Khardungla Pass in Ladakh. The arduous drive that lasted for 9 days not only bore extrem e temperature variations, but also tackled diverse traffic conditions from busy city traffic snarls to rough terrains posed by the Jozila Pass and mountainous elevations on way to Srinagar and further onwards to Kargil and Leh.

Advanced Electric Drive Train: The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC is equipped with a state-of-the-art electric drive train (eATS) on the rear axle, with an additional state-of-the-art electric drive train (eATS) on the front axle for all-wheel drive. The Torque Shift function allows intelligent and continuously variable distribution of drive torque between the front and rear electric motors, optimizing efficiency and performance of the SUV. The electric motors are permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM), offering the EQS SUVV a high-power density, excellent efficiency, and consistent power delivery, which was adequately used by the testing team during the 9 days drive from Rajasthan to J&K amidst difficult terrains.

Powertrain and Performance: The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 SUV 4MATIC, the BEV for this cross- country endeavour, stands testament to Mercedes-Benz’s cutting-edge BEV engineering prowess. Powering the EQS SUV 450 4MATIC are robust electric motors coupled with a responsive 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, which ensures excellent traction and stability. The vehicle features an intelligent OFFROAD driving mode, allowing it to tackle rough terrain with ease ranging from the desert sands of Jaisalmer to snow-laden passes of Jojila and Khardungla. This combination of powerful performance and advanced technology ensures that the EQS SUV delivers a premium driving experience both on and off the road.

Chassis and Suspension: The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC is equipped with a sophisticated chassis featuring a four-link axle at the front and an independent multilink suspension at the rear. The standard AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adjustable damping (ADS+) allows for a ground clearance increase of several centimeters. The DYNAMIC SELECT modes—ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, and INDIVIDUAL—enable drivers to tailor the driving experience. The OFFROAD mode provides additional capabilities for off-road driving, enhancing the SUV’s versatility, as was thoroughly tested during this drive comprising mountainous terrains.

Largest Battery Pack and Range: Equipped with the largest and robust 122kWh battery pack that delivers a maximum power output of 360hp and a peak torque of 800 Nm, the EQS 450 SUV 4MATIC offers an industry best real-world range of 600+ Kms, alleviating any range anxiety even in the remotest location, as proven during this cross-country driving mission.
Luxury and Infotainment: The MBUX Hyperscreen, spanning the entire dashboard, includes a 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger, allowing dynamic content with intelligent dimming to ensure driver focus. Additionally, the Burmester 3D Surround sound system with Dolby Atmos® delivers a groundbreaking audio experience, creating a 360-degree sound environment that enhances spatial awareness and immersion by positioning individual audio elements around the listener.

Safety: Safety remains paramount, with the EQS 450 4MATIC incorporating nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS, and a 360-degree camera system. These features ensured that the vehicle remained steadfast and secure throughout the demanding journey.

Drive Route: Jaisalmer to Khardungla Pass
The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC was driven from the western tip of India from Jaisalmer to the icy heights of Khardungla, Ladakh, covering a distance of more than 2300 Kms. The route covered cities like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Zirakhpur, Jammu, Srinagar. Kargil and Legh before reaching the mighty Khardungla Pass.
