Mitsubishi is on a road to overhaul its operations in India. Mitsubishi India return back could see the Japanese automaker will soon enter into a new era by establishing a new manufacturing facility in Jamshedpur. The company also plans to launch a series of products across popular categories like mid-size SUV, premium SUV, etc.
Mitsubishi is looking forward to striking a new partnership with one of the major auto component manufacturers in India. The component manufacturer is based in Jamshedpur city. The association will witness the influx of Rs 500 crores of investment from an Indian company to help Mitsubishi kick-start and streamline its second innings in India. An official announcement in this regard is expected to be made a few months from now, probably in the month of September.
In terms of the product choices, Mitsubishi will launch rivals of the Hyundai Creta and Toyota Fortuner. Besides, the company will source from its global product portfolio and could pick Pajero Sport, RVR, and Eclipse Cross compact SUV for the Indian market. Also, there was speculation about the launch of Eclipse Cross in India in 2020 but it turned out to be untrue. Nonetheless, the compact SUV has a lot of potential and it can easily become a game-changer for the Mitsubishi in India.
The production at Mitsubishi’s upcoming plant is expected to commence from 2022. The company also aims to expand its dealership network and wants its partners to grow at least three times the current number. Just so you know, there are 11 dealerships of the company in India as of now. It will be interesting to witness how this renewed interest of Mitsubishi in its Indian operations will pan out. The key area, where Mitsubishi lagged in its first innings, is its after-sales support. Now to win over customers in its second innings, it must strive to spread the dealership network far and wide in the country.
