The new New Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway will reduce the travel time be half and will serve as a major part of the advancing road development

As the popular saying goes –“Change is constant” and we have to adapt to it. Now let’s not be all that philosophical and jump straight into what brought you here. Yes, the Mumbai-Nagpur stretch of road will get a thorough overhaul by 2021. The Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway (NMSCE) is an eight lane highway that will cut the travel time between these two cities by almost a half. Now if you’re wondering how much the present time is? Well, the answer is 16 long hours. This New Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway 700km long project will connect districts like Amravati, Nashik, Wardha, Akola, Bhiwandi, Thane, Washim, Buldhana, Aurangabad and Nagpur.

To ensure complete isolation and fast movement of transport, the highway will have underpasses for vehicular and pedestrian traffic at every village and town through which it passes. Although the route will pass through the outskirts of cities and towns, it will have interchanges at major road intersections.

The project is sanctioned by the Maharastra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the capital is a huge INR 46,000 crores. Interestingly this project will also include development of educational centres, IT hubs, townships and industrial zones along the way and will also sport energy efficient solar lighting systems. Being an important roadway, it’s no surprise that the NMSCE will get telephone booths, food plazas, fuel stations, emergency service centres and other amenities too. Add to that there will be free Wi-Fi, CCTV assisted traffic surveillance and monitoring along the entire route.

The MSRDC has acquired 60 percent of the total land required for this project. The total amount stands at 9,330 hectares. Officials say that the tendering process will be completed by April 10, 2018 after which the project will take approximately three years to turn into a reality. This new roadway came as welcome news for people who have to travel to and fro in the above-mentioned cities. Along with aiding fast transport, this new project will add to the rising economy and will provide vast opportunities of employment and investments.
