The Indian government has issued a policy update that removes licensing requirements for specific radio frequency bands allocated for automotive technologies. By exempting the 77GHz–81GHz band used for automotive radar and the 5.9GHz band designated for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication from spectrum licensing, the authorities have aligned national regulations with standards observed in the United States and Europe. This shift allows automotive manufacturers to deploy global hardware configurations in the Indian market without the need for region-specific modifications, which may streamline development processes.

The initiative is intended to facilitate the integration of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring—as well as communication systems that enable vehicles to share data with surrounding infrastructure. While the policy aims to lower regulatory barriers to improve vehicle safety following recent government reports on road traffic accidents, the adoption and implementation of these specific technologies remain optional for manufacturers and consumers.
