The Tata Altroz EV has been making exciting strides in development for some time now! It was first introduced in concept form at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later previewed with a near-production model at the Auto Expo 2020. We’re thrilled to share that the Altroz EV, codenamed Ascot by Tata Motors, is still on track.
While Tata has encountered some challenges along the way, initially planned as Tata’s second EV following the Nexon EV, there were some hurdles related to the battery pack’s packaging under the floor, which impacted ground clearance a bit. However, Tata is committed to maintaining the Altroz EV’s launch.
Back in January of last year, Tata Motors’ MD, Shailesh Chandra, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Altroz EV would debut this year after the Harrier EV and Sierra EV. Although it seems there might be a slight delay, the anticipation for the Altroz EV continues to build!
This year’s festive season is set to bring exciting updates for the Punch facelift! Along with the mid-cycle refresh for the ICE model, the Punch EV, which shares the innovative Acti.EV architecture with the Altroz EV, will also receive these same fantastic enhancements. The revamped Punch EV will likely feature an upgraded EV architecture, providing the perfect opportunity for a larger battery. Tata has taken valuable customer feedback into account, recognizing the demand for small EVs to be capable of inter-city commutes and longer drives.
The range and power of the Tata Altroz EV are expected to mirror those of the Punch EV, ensuring an exciting driving experience. With the new Acti.EV architecture, Tata appears to have effectively resolved the battery packaging concerns, even while accommodating larger battery packs. Both the Altroz and Punch EVs are anticipated to offer similarly sized battery options (with the current Punch EV featuring 25kWh and 35kWh units boasting impressive ARAI ranges of 265km and 365km, respectively) and motors (82hp and 122hp). Expect
While the pricing for the Tata Altroz EV and Punch EV (ranging from Rs 10 lakh-14.44 lakh) will overlap the Punch, their target audiences are distinct enough to ensure that sales will thrive without any cannibalization. Exciting times ahead for Tata and its remarkable range of electric vehicles!
