The newly unveiled Tata Altroz facelift continues to provide the same three fuel options—petrol, diesel, and CNG—as before. Notably, it introduces a new AMT option for the petrol variant. Although the AMT gearbox was absent at launch, it is confirmed that this feature will also be made available for the CNG powertrain soon, likely within the next couple of months. Additionally, there are indications that a diesel automatic could be on the horizon, especially since the diesel DCA is already featured in the Curvv, with plans to include it in the Nexon as well. However, this diesel automatic is contingent on demand and won’t be released in the immediate future like the CNG automatic.
Tata Motors already has experience with AMT gearboxes in its Tiago and Tigor CNG models, making it a logical move to include this technology in the more upscale Altroz. In fact, Tata stands out as the only manufacturer to offer an automatic option within CNG powertrains. While the absence of this feature at launch might have seemed like an oversight, it appears that Tata might’ve deferred it for a strategic introduction later on.
The Altroz employs the same 1.2-litre engine found in the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, so we can expect the power output of 73 hp and torque of 95 Nm to stay consistent. Furthermore, it will feature the dual CNG cylinder setup seen in the pre-facelift Altroz.
