The Hyundai Creta Electric is making its debut in the Indian mass-market EV segment hasn’t really worked in the market. The Tata Curvv EV has enthralled the market with its stunning design and even more aggressive pricing than Creta EV. The slightly older rival is the MG ZS EV, and the newly launched Mahindra BE 6 is where the competition is but there is a catch to all this.
When it comes to dimensions, the Creta Electric stands out by surpassing the Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV in length, height, ground clearance, and wheelbase. However, the Mahindra BE 6 takes the lead in size, being 31mm longer, 117mm wider, and sitting 7mm higher than the Creta Electric, although the Hyundai model is 28mm taller. Notably, the BE 6 offers larger 19-inch and optional 20-inch wheels for a more commanding presence. In terms of storage, the Creta Electric features the smallest boot capacity in this group, lagging behind the Tata Curvv’s impressive boot space by 67 litres. On the bright side, it does come with a frunk that adds an additional 22 litres of storage.
The lower variants of the Creta Electric have less power compared to the others and the higher variants are barely getting close to rivals. The Mahindra BE 6 stands out in terms of performance, boasting at least 100Nm more torque and nearly 300hp in its top variants, alongside a larger battery and extended range. The Curvv EV delivers 360 km range in real life, the Creta can deliver 320 km, if stretched to the last bit.
The Creta Electric may have a slight edge in charging times, but that is also optional. At 17.9- Rs. 23.5 lakhs, it isn’t value considering simple design and lack of high range. The charging times isn’t a concern for owners as much as range does. Fast chargers charge all these cars in 1.5 hours. Home charging has to be between 6-8 hours and all these SUV’s do well in that regard. With its more powerful performance and larger dimensions, the BE 6 carries a premium price tag nearing Rs 27 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The Curvv EV is the best in the segment when it comes to be really well packaged. The sales numbers nowadays show that Curvv EV is climbing the chart slowly and steadily. The MG ZS EV is good in all areas, not great, but it is suddenly dated and overshadowed by its new sibling. The MG ZS EV is going for a massive Rs six lakh discount too. The options boil down too either the expensive and radical BE or the Curvv EV which seems well priced around Rs 17.49 lakhs to Rs 22 lakhs.
