The Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 is a fairly new motorcycle and definitely one of the best in the entry-level sports bike segment. It’s also a motorcycle that commands a strong following and is a popular seller for Yamaha Motor India. So, it’s only fairly that Yamaha is developing an updated version of the motorcycle. And this version was recently spotted testing somewhere in Delhi. The internet suggests that this could be the R15 V4.0 that will see the model get a comprehensive upgrade over the current model that has been around since 2018 in India.

The mid life-cycle update for the YZF-R15 could be a result of the change in Yamaha’s big model range. The R15 V4.0 could get a restyled fairing on the lines of the new Yamaha YZF-R7. So, the dual-LED headlamps are likely to make way for a single LED headlamp unit with LED DRLs. The spy video shows a camouflaged test mule but the side fairing and the tail section are likely to get changes as well.

Other details remain identical like the committed riding position, clip-on handlebars, and the rear set footpegs. The India-spec model is likely to continue using the telescopic front forks even as the international version of the bike comes with USD front forks. A monoshock takes care of the suspension at the rear. Braking performance will come from disc brakes and dual-channel ABS.

Yamaha could also tweak the powertrain. The 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with VVA technology currently develops 18.6PS and 14.1Nm of peak torque. The motor comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch. The power and performance could see a slight revision on the motorcycle making it a more apt choice for buyers.

Do note, this is the first sighting of the updated model and we do think the launch is still some time away. The Yamaha R15 V4.0 is likely to arrive internationally first in South East Asian markets. The updated version is likely to debut in 2022 and could come to India in 2023.
