South Korea’s Transport Ministry said on Thursday that Hyundai Motor Co and sister company Kia Corp will recall about 170,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in South Korea due to problems with charging system software.

Hyundai will recall 113,916 electric vehicles in the country, affecting five electric vehicle models, including the Ioniq and Genesis series, the ministry said. Kia will recall 56,016 electric vehicles.

An error was discovered in the software of the onboard charge controller used on 170,000 Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles, which could make it difficult to power low-voltage batteries and leading to the risk of speeding while driving, the Ministry said. speak.
