2016 Volvo S90 Launched comes at a price tag that undercuts its rivals and offers even more than them making it the best bargain in the segment

When we drove the Volvo S90 couple of weeks back we were sure that the car as a mechanical package along with the stunning design which is by far the very best in the segment will help it take on rivals quite easily. A segment where driving is secondary but back seat comfort and luxury along with the brand positioning and image is more important for customers. Volvo hit the nail hard with it and succeed in getting all of this right. We wondered about the price though. Volvo said be assured it will be priced right. Moving on, the design which is clearly ahead thanks to the Thor’s headlight, the stunning grille with the badge adding flair when it comes to the front-end design. The elongated couple profile already speaks for itself and makes sure it is form and function at the same time. The rear is very different from the rest of the car and slowing it is winning the debate and growing as a design.


A particular feature that should help it stand out even more than expected. The Volvo S90 exterior is already appealing but the interior takes you another dimension with its approach, materials, design and layout which is yet again what segment buyers look for. Large screen, leather all around, chunk of wood in between and subtle amount of chrome along with detailing for buttons and knobs which is by far never done in this segment.

Power comes from a sub two liter diesel engine that makes 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque that is mated to a 8-speed automatic. Volvo S90 may not be the most sportiest to drive but it poised, balanced enough and extremely comfortable and quite making it the ideal deal in the segment. Priced at a mouth-watering 53.5 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai, the car should have an on-road price tag of under Rs. 60 lakhs in most cities making it an irresistible buy for prospective customers who want a car in this segment.
