BMW India has introduced the new 7 Series range, offering both petrol and all-electric powertrains. The lineup includes the BMW 740 M Sport and the BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport, both priced ex-showroom at INR 1,95,00,000. Both of these models are locally produced at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai, making India the only country outside of Germany to manufacture the i7 locally. The high-performance, fully electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive is available as a completely built-up unit with an ex-showroom price of INR 2,65,00,000.
The exterior design of the new 7 Series features the BMW Iconic Glow Kidney Grille, crystal headlights, and adaptive LED headlights with High-Beam Assistant. The 740 M Sport and i7 50 variants include the M Sport package, which adds an aerodynamics package, blue M Sport brakes, and 20-inch aerodynamic wheels. The i7 M70 xDrive is further distinguished by an M-specific front apron, large air deflector elements, a rear apron with a diffuser, M exterior mirrors, and 21-inch M light-alloy wheels. It also includes an adaptive M chassis and M Launch Control. All models feature automatic doors utilizing radar technology and a Ceremonial Light Carpet.
The interior integrates the BMW Panoramic Vision head-up display, a 17.9-inch central display, and BMW Operating System X. Passenger amenities include a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, a front passenger entertainment display, and a 35-speaker, 1,965-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System. Seating configurations offer Executive Lounge seating with up to a 43-degree recline, massage functions, and BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery. Driver assistance systems across the range include Active Cruise Control, Parking Assistant Professional, Reversing Assistant Professional, and Driving Assistant Plus.
The BMW 740 M Sport is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission utilizing rear-wheel drive. It produces 400 hp and 540 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. The fully electric i7 eDrive50 xDrive utilizes a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generating 455 hp and 660 Nm of torque. Powered by a 112.5 kWh battery, it achieves a 0-100 km/h time of 5.5 seconds, a top speed of 210 km/h, and a WLTP range of up to 728 km. The flagship i7 M70 xDrive features a dual-motor electric all-wheel-drive system delivering a maximum system output of 680 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, reaches a top speed of 250 km/h, and provides a maximum electric range of 686 km.
