Mercedes-Benz India launched the S 450e, its first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the S-Class segment, on June 15, 2026. This heavily updated model features over 2,700 new or revised components, representing more than 50% of the vehicle. Bookings for the car commenced on June 15, 2026, with deliveries scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2026. The S 450e Launch Edition is priced at Rs. 2.20 Cr., while the MANUFAKTUR Edition starts at Rs. 2.38 Cr., both ex-showroom across India.

Mechanically, the S 450e is equipped with a Euro 7 compliant 3.0-litre M256 Evo inline-6 turbo-petrol engine that produces 326 hp and 540 Nm of torque. This is paired with a 120 kW (163 hp) synchronous electric motor generating 440 Nm, resulting in a combined system output of 320 kW (435 hp) and 680 Nm. The rear-wheel-drive vehicle utilizes a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery, allowing for a pure electric range of approximately 115 km on the WLTP cycle. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Additionally, AIRMATIC air suspension is standard, along with rear-axle steering set at 4.5 degrees, which can be optionally upgraded to 10 degrees.
Beyond its powertrain, the S-Class features several exterior and technological updates. The front design incorporates an illuminated radiator grille that has been enlarged by about 20%, alongside new twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with micro-LED technology capable of a 600-metre high-beam projection. The rear includes newly designed tail-lamps with three chrome-framed signature stars. Inside, the vehicle operates on the purpose-built Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and features the standard MBUX Superscreen with Google Maps-based MBUX Surround Navigation and an AI-powered virtual assistant. Finally, safety is supported by an adaptive restraint system, PRE-SAFE Impulse belt pretensioners, and 15 airbags, which is a first for the S450e in India.
