A Tata Sierra test vehicle equipped with emission-monitoring apparatus was recently observed undergoing real-world road trials near Tata Motors’ manufacturing facility in Pune. The prototype displayed a blue exterior paint finish similar to the Royal Blue shade offered on the Safari, a color that is not currently part of the standard Sierra lineup. Because the company uses emission-testing equipment to evaluate powertrains under real driving conditions, the sighting has led to industry speculation that an iCNG variant is under development. Tata Motors currently offers factory-fitted CNG options across several passenger vehicle segments, but the technology has not yet been introduced to its larger SUV models positioned above the Nexon.
While Tata Motors has not released official technical specifications for a compressed natural gas variant, the vehicle could potentially utilize the brand’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 106 bhp in its standard configuration, or the 160 bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. If the manufacturer follows its established iCNG integration strategy, the model would likely feature a twin-cylinder setup positioned beneath the luggage floor to maximize boot space and retain the spare wheel. Additional expected features include a direct-start function in CNG mode, automatic fuel switching, and integrated safety systems. An official launch date has not been confirmed, but industry reports suggest a potential market introduction around the upcoming festive season.
