The Tata Punch has officially crossed the 8 lakh sales milestone in less than five years since its launch in October 2021. This makes it the fastest SUV in India to reach this figure. It continues to dominate the market, ranking as the top-selling SUV in India for July 2026 with over 21,300 units sold.
Earlier this year, Tata rolled out significant updates for both the internal combustion engine (ICE) and EV versions of the Punch:
* **New Engine Option:** The ICE Punch facelift introduced a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine (120bhp) alongside the naturally aspirated petrol and CNG variants.
* **Design & Tech:** The exterior styling was heavily updated to align more closely with its EV sibling. Inside, it received major tech upgrades including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and rear AC vents.
* **Pricing:** The updated petrol-powered Punch launched with a starting price of ₹5.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
* **BaaS for EV:** The Punch EV is now available under Tata’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, dropping the initial acquisition cost to ₹6.49 lakh, with battery usage charged separately per kilometer.
Tata continues its strong safety record. Both the facelifted ICE Punch and the Punch EV were tested by Bharat NCAP earlier in 2026, and both secured 5-star safety ratings for adult and child occupant protection. Tata Punch has become an instant best seller given the EV has BAAS an option and ICE variants are beautifully packaged. The Punch has out gunned the Hyundai Exter by a big margin and given sleepless nights to all manufacturers as the Punch gains some serious momentum nationally with its strong design and safety!
