Airbag jacket isn’t a news to the enthusiast ears. Ducati along with a manufacturer has did the same in the past and there was a hype around it. There are videos on the internet showing real life situations on how these jackets can save your life. After real world testing, other manufacturer are set to come in as well. BMW Motorrad today is one of them and has just launched the Airbag Jacket Street Air Dry by Alpinestars. The advanced airbag system in the jacket is set to offer comprehensive upper body protection.

This time there isn’t a system requiring no motorbike-mounted sensors. So you can wear it on your G310R or S1000RR and the Jupiter scooter that you have at home. BMW Motorrad Airbag Jacket Street Air Dry utilizes an algorithm that detects imminent danger with precision, as it has been calculated with various criterias. Once that happens, the airbag in the jacket inflates the full upper body airbag to provide a highly effective crash protection system, just before the first impact.

The donor jacket for this purpose is the BMW Motorrad Street Air Dry textile unit. The jacket is designed to interconnect with the Alpinestars airbag system vest and is an essential component of the jacket that will help deploy the airbag in the jacket. BMW Motorrad Airbag Jacket Street Air Dry is set to offer instantaneous inflatable upper body protection to the back, kidneys, chest and shoulders. The idea is an exclusive agreement between BMW Motorrad and Alpinestars. The jacket is available for both female and male customers in different colorways from October 2016.

BMW Motorrad Airbag Jacket Street Air Dry features include a full airbag inflation in 25 milliseconds for protection during crash impacts. The Jacket is immediately ready for use. Placing the sensors near to the body means the airbag system can be used on road or for off-road as well. BMW says that there is no need to deactivate the system if leaving the road. System and the device is protected by a durable and water-resistant casing. No prices are announced yet. We expect it to come to India, but whether it helps us in our ‘stop-go traffic and ‘almost every hour you face a potential risk of ‘imminent danger’ is yet to be tested.
