Hyundai’s compact SUV, Venue has received a new diesel engine just ahead of the April 1, 2020 deadline of BS6 introduction in the country. The Venue, which made its debut with a 1.4-liter diesel engine, will now be available with a brand new 1.5-liter BS6 motor. There is a considerable bump in the power and torque figures as the new 4-cylinder diesel engine puts out 99 bhp and 240 Nm of max power and max torque respectively. In contrast, the outgoing engine was good for the 89 bhp and 220 Nm. The difference in the power and torque figures translates into 10bhp and 20Nm which is quite healthy on the paper and expected to improve the on-road performance of the SUV. The new 1.5-liter motor comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the rest of the things on this compact SUV continues to remain the same. In addition to this new diesel motor, the Hyundai venue is also available with a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine which makes 118 bhp of max power along with 172Nm of max torque. You get two transmission options available here – a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Hyundai has also made Venue available with the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine which is good for the 82bhp and 115Nm of max power and max torque respectively. The only gearbox option available with the 1.2-liter petrol engine is a 5-speed manual transmission.
In terms of competition, the Hyundai venue is up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, and Mahindra XUV 3OO among others. There is stiff competition between the Hyundai venue and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza as both of these SUVs are jostling for the top position in the highly competitive compact SUV segment of the Indian automobile industry.
