Mahindra S201 Spied Testing Weeks Before Unveil of its name and design. The launch will happen by January-Feb 2019
The compact SUV buzz has been taken by storm in the past few years. Mahindra is planning to be right in the sweet spot with their upcoming compact SUV the S201. What’s more, they will even debut it in Diwali 2018. Mahindra’s is aiming to take on the compact SUV segment with the S201 and they have been testing their new compact SUV for quite some time now. The S201 is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli SUV and will carry a lot of styling cues from the latter with some obvious changes to make it fit for the Indian audience. All Ssangyong products will be badged as Mahindra’s henceforth and come in the market with value card being very strong. Mahindra S201 Engine And Specification
The S201 will be powered via a brand new 1.2 litre petrol engine with an expected power output of around 130 bhp and the 1.5 litre mHawk engine which could put out a class leading power output of around 125bhp. Both the engines are jointly developed by Ssangyong and Mahindra. To make the SUV even more appealing Mahindra will launch it in automatic as well as manual transmission. Being a compact SUV, the SUV will feature high ground clearance and chunkier tires to bestow it with some off-road prowess.

The low costs mean Mahindra had to keep the SUV under 4 metres of length to attract fewer taxes. The shorter wheelbase version, the S201 will be priced under RS. 6 lacs ex-showroom and with that pricing, they sure will attract a lot of customers. Launch in early 2019
Mahindra S201 Competition
The smaller variant which is the S201 will rival the segment leading cars like the Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and Tata Nexon. The car will be positioned strategically as it will also rival a few premium crossovers like the Hyundai i20 Cross and the Honda WR-V which roughly fall in the same price bracket.
