Mahindra XUV 500 170 BHP Variant as the this SUV segment is seeing a rapid increase in competitors which will keep XUV more relevant
Mahindra has been working on an update for its upmarket SUV, XUV 500 and soon the XUV 50O may soon get a performance boost as Mahindra has decided to increase the power output of its 2.2 l m-Hawk engine from the earlier 140 bhp to 170 bhp. This output could be available on the automatic variant while the manual gearbox equipped variant is likely to continue the same state of tune. The torque figures are also expected to go up. This will be the second facelift for the XUV since its launch in 2011.
Mahindra is also planning similar power output for the Scorpio facelift, which is expected to produce a healthy 140 HP in opposition to the current Scorpio’s 120 HP from the same 2.2 litre m-Hawk diesel engine.
Mahindra’s move to update the power figures on the 2.2-litre unit is to make space for the 1.6-litre diesel engine which Mahindra has been developing jointly with its Korean acquisition SsangYong which will produce 130 HP and is expected to make its debut in the Indian market under the Mahindra’s upcoming Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) category.
The bump in power will put the XUV 500 right in the territory of large, seven seater SUV’s such as Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. XUV has some stiff competition and despite that it has been doing while offering value for money in abundance overs its rival in the same segment and even in the segment above.
This move makes thing more clear that the manufacturer plans to do the same and take on the likes before the Ssangyong flagship SUV, Rexton which is coming in with all new avatar is making its way into the Indian market before time. Expect an announcement shortly on the same from Mahindra as a launch is very near for this one.
