Next Gen Honda City Diesel CVT will challenge all its competitor and there will be no stopping the best seller anymore!
At the 2018 Auto Expo, Honda had unveiled the second generation Amaze which gets the unique Diesel – CVT engine and transmission. This is the 1.5-litre diesel engine and is the most fuel-efficient mill with the CVT gearbox. It is easy to drive around the city and it also provides better fuel efficiency.
But on the other hand, if you’re expecting Honda to power the current generation City with this Diesel CVT combination, we have bad news for you. As of now, Honda doesn’t feel that the time and investment required to engineer the CVT transmission for the diesel engine isn’t justified by the units which will be sold. Hence the 1.5-litre diesel mill will only be mated with a manual gearbox, but if your keen on getting your hands on a CVT for the City, Honda is offering it with the petrol engine.
However, Honda is working on a Diesel CVT combo for the Next Generation City which will be launched in the year 2020. Currently, they are testing the BS-VI complaint 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which will power the next-gen City. Officials from Honda have also stated that they will be incorporating the CVT transmission in other models also. Amaze diesel CVT will be the first to get which just months away from launch.
In comparison with the rivals of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna gets a torque converter coupled to the diesel engine. On the other hand cars such as the VW Vento and the Skoda Rapid gets a Dual Clutch Transmission.
In addition to Honda City Diesel CVT, post-2020 Honda is also focussing on hybrid technology. They are planning to drive the Jazz and City with hybrid technology just like the Jazz and Grace which are available in the Japanese market.
