24th January 2020, Bajaj and Triumph have made their alliance official at the press conference held in Pune. Now, proceeding with the press conference, we understood a lot of things that the brands plan on heading forward with. Sure, there will be quid pro quo, but make no mistake, it will all be lucrative for both, Bajaj and Triumph.

Since the news of Bajaj and Triumph alliance broke out, a lot of speculations and even more so, rumours have been out for sale. And we all know, anything that surfaces online, spreads like wildfire. But, let’s clear the air now. Bajaj-Triumph badged motorcycle is not in the making, every segment for the Triumph line-up remains untouched. The deal signed between two brands is a non-equity agreement and will be a long-termer.

However, there is going to be a motorcycle that will share a lot with Triumph, but there won’t be re-badge engineering. Just like how KTM-Bajaj worked. Pulsar’s were based on the KTM by 50% while everything else was purely Bajaj made.

Both brands are working on new and fresh motorcycles. The focus is on brand-spanking-new designs as well as the advanced engineering process for the manufacturing of bikes. Bajaj will not only manufacture these motorcycles for the global market but also take over the distribution of Triumph’s entire line-up in India and some other markets as well, but the date for that is yet to be announced.

The new models will be out by 2022 and will bear a price tag of under Rs 2 lakh. Currently, Triumph has its reach across 57 markets and moves north of 60,000 bikes every year. We can expect potential mid-capacity motorcycles in Triumph’s portfolio. With Triumph alongside Bajaj, both the brands are confident about a larger appetite of the audience to steer towards the brands and thereby move volume.
