Renault Kiger has made its entry into the competitive compact SUV space where it’s pitted against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Nissan Magnite, and Urban Cruiser. We compare these contenders in this spec-comparison review to find out whether Kiger has got what it takes to beat the competition.

Dimensions
In terms of length, all SUVs are almost identical in length as they conform to the sub-4-meter slab. Vitara Brezza and its rebadged version, Toyota Urban Cruiser are the widest which means sitting abreast at the back of these SUVs will be the most comfortable affair. This comfort is further aided by the tall stances of both Maruti and Toyota which. However, Kiger beats all in the comparison with its voluminous 405-liter boot.

The features list is higher in the Renault and Nissan twin by a big margin as you get a better instrument cluster, touch screen unit, 360 degree camera on the Magnite, ambient lighting and Wireless Phone Charger. All other features expected are standard on all four SUV’s. These are the highlights features over the Toyota and Maruti twins. All four continue to miss out on sunroofs.

Engine and Transmission
Both Vitara Brezza and Urban Cruiser have bigger hearts and unsurprisingly, they have higher outputs although the difference is not substantial when compared against the turbo variants of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. In fact, the torque of Kiger and Magnite turbo is more than its competitors in comparison as turbo variants of these SUVs have 160Nm on tap which is more than 138Nm of the Maruti and Toyota. The transmission options are also wider and more sophisticated in the Kiger and Magnite and so is the case with the rated fuel-efficiency numbers.

Price and Value for Money
There is no doubt that Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite offer wonderful value for money with base versions of both SUVs starting below Rs 5.50 lakh. However, keep in mind the high-spec variants with turbo petrol engines of these offerings are higher up in the price ladder and one has to shell out more money for that. Interestingly, Toyota has priced the base variant of Urban Cruiser slightly above the Vitara Brezza though its top trim is slightly lower in price. This is done to ensure that there is no direct overlap in the prices of both SUVs.
