MV Augusta, like that two-wheeler manufacturers, is looking forward to leveraging the growing popularity of bikes displacing between 300cc and 500cc capacity. The Italian company has struck a partnership with Loncin Motor Company of China and according to the deal, both of the organizations have decided to manufacture a range of motorcycle between 300-500cc. MV Augusta will be responsible for design and engineering of the bikes while Loncin will make sure that the manufacturing will take place at cost-effective manner. The primary focus of the partnership will be to export these bikes to the countries in the Southeast Asian region.
As of now, no exact specification related to new products is available neither it is clear that whether the development of the motorbikes will start from scratch. There is a possibility that existing platforms of Loncin can be utilized for rolling out some of the initial products. Otherwise, if the development of motorbikes starts from scratch then it’s sure that new products will have MV Agusta hallmarks – trellis frame, top-quality Suspension, efficient brakes, and smooth-shifting gearbox.
In addition to developing bikes jointly, Loncin will also draw on the expertise of Italian bike maker to develop its own premium brand of motorcycles in the range of 800 cc under the name of Voge. Voge will be specifically targeted to the niche of sports bike in Chinese market. We can expect the first product from this collaboration to be ready by 2021 and might be companies give us preview of upcoming bikes at the EICMA Bike Show. The Indian market is also a potential contender to receive these new products from the MV Augusta and given the growing popularity of Indian two-wheeler market of late, we think the time is opportune for Italian bike maker to make entry and reap rich dividends.
