Maruti Suzuki has recently updated its Ertiga and XL6 MPV offerings in the Indian market. Both new MPVs are now better equipped than ever and seem ready to take on Kia Carens with more confidence and enthusiasm. We bring together all these three MPVs to find out which one of these offer you the most holistic value for your purchase.
Kia Carens is the longest and widest MPV here and also comes with longest wheelbase to offer maximum space to occupants inside the cabin. In terms of height, Maruti XL6 comes on top with its 1755 mm tall structure which also indicates that it offers maximum headroom to passengers.
Engines and Transmission
Kia Carens offers both petrol and diesel engines to choose from and also gets manual as well as automatic gearbox options for the prospective buyers. Maruti, on the other hand, has skipped diesel engine and offers both Ertiga and XL6 with 1.5-liter K-Series petrol engine with mild- hybrid technology. Both Maruti cars come with 5-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic torque converter unit.
Features and Equipment
Maruti XL6 is a strictly 6-seater MPV while Ertiga comes with single 7-seat layout. This has been done in order to clearly position XL6 as a more premium option than Ertiga.
Kia Carens, on the other hand, offer 7-seat layout though customers can opt for 6-seat option albeit in the top variant of the MPV. XL6 features a long list of equipment including four airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, connected car technology, and ventilated seats upfront. Maruti Ertiga continues to play its value card and features basic equipment such as touch screen infotainment system, cruise control, automatic climate control AC, and rear parking camera. Both Maruti models are of no match to Kia Carens with the latter offering premium features such as 6 airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mountings, premium surround sound system, and digital driver display among others.
Maruti Ertiga offers the maximum bang for your buck and starts at as low as Rs 8.35 lakh with top model costing Rs 11.54 lakh, quite an enticing price. Another Maruti’s offering XL6 stretches between Rs 11.29 lakh and Rs 14.39 lakh while Carens undercuts the base model of XL6 by almost Rs 2 lakh. Kia has cleverly positioned Carens with base model costing only Rs 9.60 lakh while the top-of-the-line variant goes all the way up to Rs 17.70 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
