Kolkata-based Mercstone International Pvt Ltd and Thailand-based Assara Electric Co. have partnered to establish an electric scooter manufacturing facility in Sankrail, Howrah, West Bengal. The project involves a total planned investment of ₹250 crore, which will be rolled out in phases. As part of the initial phase, Assara Electric plans to invest 250 million Thai Baht (approximately ₹71.3 crore).
Under the terms of the agreement, Assara Electric will supply advanced technology, technical expertise, and critical raw materials. Mercstone International will handle the establishment of the production plant, local labor recruitment, marketing, sales, and after-sales operations. Beyond manufacturing and assembly, the joint initiative aims to develop a broader domestic supply chain network, including component suppliers, dealerships, service centers, and logistics operations.
West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta and Transport Minister Arjun Singh attended the announcement, noting the state government’s support for local industrial setup and electric vehicle adoption. According to company representatives, the expansion of manufacturing capacity is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities while contributing to domestic EV infrastructure.
