Fiat Cronos Is Replacement For Linea Nameplate and could come to India in late 2018 or early 2019 along with new SUV’s
Italian carmaker Fiat has announced its imminent sedan which is based on the Argo hatchback and will be called as the Cronos. Codenamed as the X6S the car will have its global debut later this year in Argentina with sales commencing in early 2018. Fiat’s outgoing models Punto and the Linea have become quite outdated now and the company has decided to bring in a new player which will help them to compete against other brands and keep their portfolio updated. The Cronos sedan will likely replace the Linea.
The Fiat Cronos styling is expected to be identical to its hatchback sibling, the Argo, but with a bit more of added styling and minor changes. At the rear the sedan will have uniquely designed tail lamps and bumper. The cabin is also expected to be shared between the two, along with their accessories list. The chunky three spoke flat-bottom steering, layered dashboard, a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia infotainment display in the instrument cluster, automatic air conditioning, and ambient lighting from Argo hatch will also fit into the upcoming Fiat Cronos sedan.
The Fiat Cronos sedan is expected to be offered in three engine options. At the bottom of the range will be a 1.0-litre firefly 3 cylinder engine producing 77 bhp and 110 Nm of peak torque followed by 109 bhp 1.3-litre 4 cylinder motor developing 112 bhp and 139 Nm of peak torque. Another option will be the 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, E-torQ Evo VIS motor developing 140 bhp and 189 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual transmission, a 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fiat is said to offer engine start stop system as standard.
The Argo and the Cronos sedan are restricted to South American market. Hence India launch is unlikely. However, Fiat is planning to launch the successor of the Punto hatchback named as the Primo. The sedan Sibling of the Primo hatch is the model which is expected to replace the Linea sedan in the country.
