Bullet and Bomb Proof Skoda Superb is all the car a bureaucrat will ever need, practical and safe from terrorists

Skoda, as we all know, makes luxury cars at a relatively affordable price tag. Their model range starts from the utilitarian Rapid to the uber crossover – the Kodiaq. Internationally Skoda has a strong presence and has cars in various body styles and myriad engine configurations.

One such Skoda caught our attention, and although it may look like just another Skoda, it has a special trick up its sleeve. This Skoda Superb Estate is a bullet and bomb proof vehicle that has all sorts of armor to get you through the most treacherous and life-threatening situations.

This is the very first attempt of the Czech car maker at the armored vehicle segment. The car costs a hefty (which is obvious) £118,688 (that amounts to around INR 1.06 crore) and is constructed using high strength steel, bullet resistant glass and composite materials. This stunning piece of the machine was built by Skoda in collaboration with a UK-based converter and took nearly four weeks to build.

As said previously, Bullet and Bomb Proof Skoda Superb looks exactly like its non-bullet and bombproof cousin; however, the trick lies under its skin. The standard 2 litre TDI engine which produces 188 bhp is still there, but now it is certified to PAS 300 civilian protection, what that means is – now it is resistant to blasts, missiles and impacts from a shotgun, handgun and even a rifle. This certification procedure is carried out in a separate facility where the car has to undergo all sorts of torture. The exterior features steel and composite materials along with bullet-resistant glass that offers 360-degree protection.

There are some hi-tech safety features like emergency lighting, siren system, run-flat tire protection which allow the driver to keep driving even after a puncture. Because of the added weight, the suspension and brakes too are tweaked. The braking now is certified to NAPFM (National Association of Police Fleet Managers) type 001 brake test. The suspension is tweaked to account for the increase in weight of the car.

For the entertainment of the passengers, the car gets an 8-inch touchscreen with GPS, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Along with this it also has all the features that are offered in the “normal” Skoda Superb. The vehicle is 4.8m long and 1.5m tall and has a boot space of 660 litres. That sums up the ballistic Skoda Superb Estate. Do you think Skoda should launch it in India? Let us know in the comments.
