Hero MotoCorp has announced that the brand’s first-ever electric vehicle will be launched by March 2022. The company confirmed the development alongside its financial results for the second quarter of FY2022. Hero announced earlier this year that it’s working on an electric offering which will be an electric scooter, and we got a glimpse of that model during the company’s 10th-anniversary celebrations. Hero also announced that its upcoming electric offering will be produced at the manufacturer’s Chittoor plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Hero MotoCorp has partnered with Taiwan’s Gogoro for developing its upcoming electric offerings, while the company is also working with Ather Energy for its connector technology. This promises a standardised connector tech on offerings from both manufacturers. The manufacturer could also bring battery swapping technology on its scooters, keeping up with Gogoro’s business model overseas. There are no details yet on the range and power figures on the upcoming electric scooter, but we can expect them to be on par with segment rivals that include the Ather 450X, Ola S1, SImple One, upcoming Bounce Infinity and the likes.
Coming to Hero’s Chittoor plant, the facility is the youngest of the company’s factories and is called the ‘Garden Factory’. The plant is known for its eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing practices. Having begun operations only in March 2020, it will provide an integrated ecosystem for battery pack manufacturing and testing, vehicle assembly and vehicle end of line testing (EOL), the company said in a statement.
