MG Motor India will launch its first all-electric vehicle in early 2023 and this will be the Air two-door EV. The MG Air EV is a small electric car quite like the Mahindra e2O was and is expected to make its public debut at the Auto Expo in January next year ahead of the launch. The new offering will be the brand’s entry level electric model and is expected to be a sub Rs. 10 lakh product. That’s quite interesting since it will compete with the Tata Tiago EV that retails from Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom) with deliveries set to begin in January.

The MG Air EV is compact in size and draws power from a single electric motor that makes 41PS. That’s less than what the Maruti 800 made. The model though uses a 20kWh-25kWh LFP battery that has a longer shelf life than NMC units. The Air EV promises a range of 150 km on a single charge in real-world conditions. It will be sending power to the front wheels.

So just how compact is the MG Air EV? It measures about 2900mm in length but offers a wheelbase of 2010mm. The boxy design is urban-friendly with squared headlamps, angular front bumpers, 12-inch wheels and small tail lights. The model gets all the essential tech inside the cabin with two 10.25-inch screens for the digital console and infotainment unit.

It will be interesting to see MG market the Air given its unconventional design and proportions. The Tiago EV, in comparison, appears as a more practical alternative. Will it be able to make a change in the entry-level EV segment? We xant wait to find out.
