MG Motor Manufacturing begins in India at the Halol plant which GM has leased to the company, the Chinese owned British brand is coming to India
UK based car manufacturer MG motor, owned by Chinese auto giant SIAC, has disclosed the inauguration of its very first manufacturing facility at Halol, Gujrat in India. The company will be making an initial investment of Rs. 2000 crore with an primary capacity of 80,000 units per year in its first phase. MG Motor India will roll out its first production from the plant in 2019, the company stated in a statement.
The all new advanced facility will be spread over an area of 170 acres, and will be renovated by MG Motor by 2019, The company has already started hiring workforce for the plant. For the time the company has giving jobs to 70 employees at the plant. The plant will create a significant number of jobs, apart from from creating additional indirect jobs in the state. MG’s Halol plant is the same unit that was used by General Motors earlier to produce Chevrolet vehicles. The brand is quite unknown in the country as for now but the brand does have a following in India with an estimated 500 owners across the country, these owners and fans are quite desirous and have expressed their curiosity, on the news of their beloved brand returning to India.
With the installation of the very first manufacturing unit in the country, The brand aims to positively contribute to the ecosystem here in Gujrat including all stakeholders by generating employment opportunities for local talent, leveraging the capable supplier base and contributing to the overall benefit of the society and community here. The greenfield facility was inaugurated with a traditional Indian ‘Puja’ ceremony during the auspicious occasion of Navratras, in the presence of all MG Motor India employees, MG Motor international employees and key representatives of the local administration including the Gujrat Government.
With the takeover and other transfer formalities completed, the brand will start refurbishing the entire plant very soon, with MG’s state-of-the-art manufacturing tool, equipment and processes. The MG brand originated as an iconic British racing sports brand in the year 1924, will roll-out its first product from the plant in 2019.
