Japanese bike maker Kawasaki might have some good news for India’s biking enthusiasts. Many of us thought that the flagship offering of the company, the Ninja 300 would be discontinued in the wake of upcoming BS6 emission norms. This despondency also rose from the fact that Kawasaki had already taken Ninja 300 off the shelf in major global markets such as America and Europe. However, the inkling we are getting from the company’s officials is just the opposite. 2020 Ninja 300 BS6 is on its way.
Kawasaki is preparing the Ninja 300 for the BS6 upgrade which means we would see the updated version of the bike in the Indian market next year. The ongoing preparations are going on a hectic pace though we don’t expect the BS6 version of the bike to be available from the very beginning of the BS6 timeline, i.e., April 1, 2020. Rather, Kawasaki will launch 2020 Ninja 300 BS6 only towards the middle of the year 2020. In its current form, the Ninja 300 features a parallel-twin engine that is capable of putting out 39PS and 27Nm of max power and max torque respectively.
A cursory look revealed that Kawasaki went for substantial localizing for Ninja 300 last year. This heavy localization resulted in a comprehensive reduction in the price of the bike with cost coming down to Rs 2.98 lakh which made it the most affordable bike in the country in 2018 having twin-parallel engine arrangements.
Of course with the BS6 upgrade, the prices of the 2020 Ninja 300 BS6 will start on the higher side. We guesstimate the range of new Ninja 300 will start somewhere around Rs 3.15-3.20 lakh. On its arrival, the Ninja 300 will continue to take on the likes of Yamaha YZF R3, TVS Apache RR 310, KTM 390 Duke, KTM RC 390, and Benelli 302 R among others.
