2018 KTM Duke 200 Gets Side Mounted Exhaust to meet new emission norms and could have ride by wire throttle as well.
At the Indonesia International Motor Show, KTM showcased the 2018 KTM Duke 200. This new Duke 200 gets a side mounted exhaust which looks similar to the exhaust which is available on the current KTM Duke 250 and the KTM Duke 390.
According to KTM, with the addition of the side mounted exhaust to the 2018 Duke 200 has helped in improving the torque delivery and also offers a distinctive exhaust note. In addition to this, now the catalytic converter will be placed under the belly, in comparison to its predecessor where it was situated inside the exhaust can. The side exhaust will also help the 2018 KTM Duke 200 comply with strict emission norms. But this will also affect the Duke 200’s riding dynamics as compared to current model as underbelly exhaust helps to provide efficient mass centralization.
Aesthetically, the 2018 KTM Duke 200 gets the same design language from the previous model. There aren’t any major changes to it, except for the side exhaust. While the Indonesian-Spec KTM Duke 200 is similar to the Indian Spec KTM Duke 200.
But there some features that the current Indian Spec KTM Duke 200 misses out such as an ABS unit and we also don’t get it as an option. But as per the new rules coming into regulation, after April 2019 all bikes above the 125cc engine will need to have ABS compulsory, so we can expect it to be on the upcoming KTM Duke 200 in India. On the other hand, the Indonesian-Spec Duke 200 is lighter by 4.5kgs.
Mechanically, the power and torque figures are almost similar in both the Indonesian and Indian Spec 2018 KTM Duke 200. The 2018 KTM Duke 200 is powered by a 199.5cc liquid-cooled, single cylinder, four stroke, petrol engine which is mated to a six-speed gearbox. This engine generates 24.6 HorsePower and 19.2Nm of twist.
