The Next Generation KTM RC Range is set for an overhaul this year and the motorcycles will get a comprehensive upgrade in every sense. While we’ve shown spy shots of the bikes in the past, a small mistake by someone at KTM accidentally revealed the MY2022 range much before you were supposed to see it. The 2022 KTM RC 125, 200 and 390 have been leaked images and these official pictures give a detailed look at everything that’s different about the new RC range. The bikes are likely to make their global debut around the festive season with India being one of the first markets to get the new range.
Next Generation KTM RC fairing certainly is all-new. The twin projector lens have been done away with and replaced with a larger single headlamp. The front section is bigger as well and the bike is likely to sport LED bulbs instead of halogens. The unit though is strikingly different from the KTM 390 Duke. The headlamp is flanked by two vertical lamps that integrate the turn indicators on the top section and the pilot lamps in the lower half section.
The spy images also reveals a new TFT display for all three models that does promise features like Bluetooth connectivity across the range. There is a possibility though that KTM India could offer the LCD screen from the 250 Adventure and 250 Duke on the new-generation KTM RC 125 and 200 to keep costs in check.
With respect to the paint scheme, all three bikes have orange in abundance with black asnd white combinations. The new KTM RC 390 sports an orange and blue paintwork that seems to be inspired by the manufacturer’s MotoGP bike colours. And this one looks fantastic in our opinion.
The 2022 KTM RC 390, 125 and 200 are expected to get a revised chassis with the new bolt-on subframe. It’s already there on the RC 390 shared with the 390 Duke, and will only now extend to the other models in the line-up. The main frame of the bike remains largely the same but there are changes to the rider seat mount area. The clip-on handlebar positioning also seems higher than before, while the top steering triple-clamp is new. The new KTM RC range likely to be slightly more upright and that should make it more rider-friendly on open roads.
The leaked images also reveal that the KTM RC 390 will get adjustable front suspension, which can’t be seen on the RC 200 and 125. All three versions appear to get the Continental ContiRoad tyres but the India-spec RC 125 and RC 200 could use MRF tyres as a more cost-effective alternative. Another highlight is the new brake discs mounted higher up and eliminate the need of a disc carrier.
The 2022 Next Generation KTM RC range is likely to continue with the same displacement engines, albeit tuned in a better fashion. So, the 124 cc, 199.5 cc, and 373 cc engines will continue to generate similar amounts of power. KTM is likely to rework the power delivery and throttle response. Moreover, the new RC 390 is expecte to get more dedicated electronic rider assists including traction control, bi-direction quickshifter and more, to make it sharper.
The bikes also appear to get a new cooling system with a curved radiator and two radiator fans. This could also the cooling issues on the RC 390, but it needs to be seen if it will be successful in directing the heat away from the rider’s legs.
The accidental slip has revealed the KTM RC range much earlier than their debut. But the Austrian bike maker is likely to introduce the models sometime this year itself. We do think a global debut is more likely, after which the models will come to India. The bikes will be made here at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant, until the new premium motorcycle facility begins operations sometime in 2023.
